Promoting Islamic Art and Culture

Islamic countries have been busy with “the promotion of Islamic art and culture, from a historical perspective, in new and innovative methods. While this has been useful in breaking down cultural barriers and showcasing Islamic history in a new light; these efforts also aim to foster a sense of pride in the youth of the region by focusing on positive lessons of Islamic heritage. Away from traditional methods of university programs, academic exchanges, conference and dialogues, these efforts have been in form of travelling exhibitions, new art museums, private art collections open to the public, web portals and comic books.”

Implications from SFG-ME:

“While many of these ideas have taken root and developed in the Middle East and Arab world, they have the potential to be replicated for a larger Muslim audience of 1.5 million people worldwide. The basic innovative concepts behind many of these ideas can also be used for other communities and religions.”

Implications from IFTF:

Not only is a cultural resurgence of this style important for the national psyche (an often under valued dynamic in economic development) but there is also a potential under the proper use of international intellectual property right laws to utilize cultural symbols and arts for income generation. As the world is becoming more connected increasing an amount of people are drawn to consumer goods representing different cultures or places they may have visited or find interesting.
